What this service helps with
Early to mid-stage food producers in Kilkenny need structured support and a route to trial their products in national retail.
About this support
Food Academy is delivered nationally by the Local Enterprise Offices in partnership with SuperValu, and LEO Kilkenny signposts its clients into the programme via its Financial Supports section. Participants receive training covering food safety, market research, branding, marketing, finance, sustainability and business development, aimed at giving small food businesses a solid foundation before approaching retail. Successful participants get the opportunity to pitch their product to a SuperValu panel and, if selected, trial the product in local SuperValu stores for a 12-week period, gaining direct feedback from store staff and consumers on packaging, marketing and distribution. The Kilkenny page notes there is no guarantee of listing as part of the programme, and links through to partner details, case studies and news relating to past Food Academy participants.
