About this support
Food Academy is a programme created in 2013 by the Local Enterprise Offices and SuperValu for early to mid-stage food business owners. Participants receive training covering food safety, market research and branding, marketing, finance, sustainability and business development, delivered through workshops and mentoring, alongside the opportunity to pitch their product to a SuperValu team. Successful participants get to trial their product on SuperValu shelves for a 12-week period, allowing them to gather feedback from store staff and consumers to refine their product, packaging and distribution. Over 300 Food Academy producers are now in SuperValu stores, and half of participants expect sales to increase by 50% or more within 12 months of taking part. The programme aims to give small food businesses a solid foundation to progress onto retail shelves.
