SOLAS

What they do

SOLAS is the statutory further education and training authority overseeing Ireland's apprenticeship system, with employers approved to train apprentices through their local education and training board under its registration and code of practice framework. Its Skills to Advance initiative provides subsidised upskilling for employees, particularly those over fifty, in lower-skilled roles or in sectors undergoing change; smaller businesses work with their local board to identify skills gaps, and named programmes such as developing leaders for hospitality and tourism are accredited and delivered online or in blended form. Skills to Compete combines transversal, digital and modular provision to help jobseekers and workers reskill for growth sectors, supported by the boards' information and guidance services. SOLAS also runs eCollege, a free national online learning platform offering courses in artificial intelligence, information technology, sustainability and project management. Employers access these services through their local board's Skills to Advance contact.
