What this service helps with

Early-stage food entrepreneurs in Westmeath need grounding in feasibility, food safety, costing and route-to-market before launching a food business.

About this support

The Food Starter programme is a short course provided online for those with a food idea or at a very early stage (typically the first 24 months) of a food business. Delivered over four half-day sessions which participants must all attend, sessions one and two cover the dynamics of the Irish food sector, feedback on the participant's product idea, conducting research and a feasibility study, market trends, food safety and choosing a route to market. Sessions three and four cover costing and managing finance, state agency supports and funding, distribution and logistics, product positioning, and branding. The programme assumes participants already understand general business basics such as tax compliance and business planning. It is also designed to boost a participant's chances of later securing a place on the Food Academy Programme. To register interest, contact Bernadette.Martyn@westmeathcoco.ie.
