What this service helps with
Helps businesses and public bodies plan a structured route to decarbonise their buildings, starting from understanding energy use through to verifying savings.
About this support
SEAI publishes a four-step decarbonisation planning strategy for businesses and public sector bodies looking to retrofit and decarbonise commercial buildings. The steps are: understanding current energy use in the building (including fabric, windows, heating/cooling, ventilation and lighting performance); carrying out an energy audit, for which SEAI's Energy Audit Handbook gives guidance on preparation, site visits and reporting; developing a pathway or roadmap for improvements; and verifying savings and setting new targets. It is aimed at businesses and public sector organisations that want a structured approach to building decarbonisation before investing in upgrades. The guidance is published online and signposts related SEAI tools such as the Energy Audit Handbook; separate SEAI financial supports such as the Support Scheme for Energy Audits are handled as distinct grant/voucher schemes.
