The Workplace Relations Commission provides an information and customer service line for employers seeking guidance on any area of employment law. Its inspection service enforces legislation including the Organisation of Working Time Act, National Minimum Wage Act, Payment of Wages Act and Terms of Employment (Information) Act, through announced and unannounced workplace inspections; employers receive an appointment letter requesting an employee details form, and the published employer guide to inspections sets out what to prepare. Where disputes arise, the commission offers mediation and, failing resolution, adjudication before an adjudication officer under legislation such as the Unfair Dismissals Act and the Employment Equality Act, with published guidance notes and checklists for hearings. The commission also drafts and publishes statutory codes of practice covering grievance and disciplinary procedures, bullying prevention, remote and flexible working and Sunday retail working, which employers are expected to have regard to.
