Macra Agricultural Skillnet was established by its contracting organisation, Macra na Feirme, in 2015 to serve members involved in farming and a wide range of agri-businesses. Its stated purpose is to drive upskilling and sustainability at all levels of the industry, developing and delivering a wide-ranging programme that includes workshops, information sessions and technical seminars. It runs a Masters Programme and initiatives such as Safe Agri Skills, a farm-safety-focused programme aimed at young people. The network has established partnerships with bodies including the Irish Farmers Journal, Teagasc, ASA, UCD, UCC and the Irish Grain and Feed Association to deliver education and training. It is guided by a Steering Group of ten people drawn from farming, farm organisations, industry, research and training, and overseen by the board of Macra na Feirme. The network supports people already in employment within the agriculture and agri-business sector; those not in employment are directed to other Skillnet networks via Skills Connect. Interested farms and agri-businesses can contact the network through its website.
