Learning Waves was set up in 2004 to provide training for those working in the independent commercial radio sector in Ireland and is an industry-led initiative. The network is funded by Skillnet Ireland together with all of the independent commercial radio stations in the country; it lists 32 independent commercial radio stations as members, along with IRS+, Onic and Media Central. Its training calendar covers themes such as radio journalism and storytelling, sales and commercial partnerships, and workplace topics including disability awareness, delivered both in person, for example at Dublin venues, and online via Zoom. The network also runs graduate programmes, including a journalism graduate programme and a radio presenter course. It is headquartered in Dundalk, Co. Louth, and supports commercial radio businesses across Ireland.
