Bere Island eCentre
An islander-run heritage centre in a converted 1857 schoolhouse that doubles as Bere Island's high-speed broadband hub and office space.
About this workspace or facility
The Bere Island eCentre operates from the Bere Island Heritage Centre, housed in the restored 1857 Ballinakilla old school building, and combines a heritage exhibition with a high-speed broadband hub, office space, printing and meeting-room hire. It drew national attention in July 2021 when a government minister attended a cabinet meeting remotely from the hub during a visit to the island. Office and broadband facilities are available by the hour, day or week, primarily serving islanders and visitors who need to work, study or attend online meetings without travelling to the mainland. There is no online booking system; access is arranged directly by phone or email, and the centre also hosts craft fairs, courses and school tours alongside its remote-working function.
